Geospatial Intelligence

Concerning the provision of products in the Security domain, the rapidly increasing amount and variety of data coming from satellites and other sources is raising new issues such as the management and exploitation of extremely large and complex datasets. Thus, the main challenge is to improve the capacity to extract in a timely manner operational (i.e. useful and clear) information from Big Geospatial Data (Geospatial Intelligence). SatCen identified solutions which could be integrated in the whole data chain to efficiently perform data analysis reducing the human effort and the amount of needed economic resources. A number of possible topics to be achieved in order to meet the main requirements of the Geospatial Intelligence community have been grouped in three areas, i.e. Thematic Indexes, Change Detection and Characterization and Land Use / Land Cover.

About the European Union Satellite Centre

The European Union Satellite Centre (EU SatCen; previously EUSC) is the agency of the European Union (EU) that supports the EU’s decision-making in the field of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), including crisis management missions and operations, by providing products and services resulting from the exploitation of relevant space assets and collateral data, including satellite and aerial imagery, and related services.
